Evaluation question 5
How did you
attract/address your audience?
In our opening
sequence we tried to make our character interesting and introduce her to the
audience. Sissi is an interesting character because she is not typical – she is
an attractive young girl (which would attract target male audience) and is
depressed and broken. She is the same age as our target audience (well, almost
the same, she is 19), which is beneficial because teens like watching films
about people of their age.
Even though in our
opening sequence we used almost only non-diegetic sound she is introduced quite
well, she makes some visual connections with the audience, looks at the camera.
Also the voice over that tells her story makes the audience be interested in
who she is and draws them in and want to know what happens to her.
We also introduce her
from the different perspectives by the usage of different camera angles and
types of shots.
From the technical
point of view I would say that the style of the video also should attract the
audience – it is almost b&w (85 %), some of the shots are distorted because
of the fisheye lens. It makes it look some sort of mysterious.
In the beginning our
video is edited in a way that it passes very quickly (fast motion + quick
change of the scenes) which we did to empasise that the voice over is talking
about the past, that it all have happened and she wants to forget it, change
the topic. Closer to the end the video becomes slower and in the end. No many
people normally notice it (obviously, except for the slow motion bit) but it
affects the way in which audience responds to the opening sequence and feels
about it.
