trainspotting opening sequence analysis

The opening sequence of the film "Trainspotting is the scene from later in the movie, but is used as an opening sequence.
It shows a guy running, close ups of his shoes and face, we can see stuff falling out of his pockets which makes viewer understand that he committed a crime.
The diegetic sound is a song by Iggy Pop - Lust for life, which highlights the time actions are taking place in, the lyrics are also quite thematic.
The repetition of the "chose a.." in the non - diegetic speech explain the story behind the storyline and emphasises the main theme of the movie - you chose your own life and your decisions and choices directly reflect the quality of it.
All the characters are introduced to us by freezing the actions and their names appearing on the screen, it makes us easier to follow the story.

Text of the speech:
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television, choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol, and dental insurance. Choose fixed interest morgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisure-wear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of fucking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who the fuck you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing, spirit-crushing game shows, stuffing fucking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing your last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrasment to the selfish, fucked up brats you spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life. But why would I want to do a thing like that?
